Citizen Science for the Amazon

The Citizen Science for the Amazon Project utilizes a citizen science approach to generate information about fish and water at a basin-wide scale, and to engage citizen scientists as informed, empowered stakeholders for the sustainable management of fisheries and the conservation of wetlands. In this way, we will contribute to the grander objective of conserving the Amazon’s freshwater ecosystems and improve its inhabitants’ livelihoods.

Living Andean Rivers

Transformations of the Andean River landscape have compromised critical river flows for human and ecosystem wellbeing. Rios Vivos Andinos aims to unite scientists, government authorities, conservationists, and riparian human communities to strengthen management methods of free-flowing rivers.


Social and Ecohydrological Science Connections for Environmental Flows

The objective of this collaboration is to bring together natural scientists (with expertise in environmental flow assessment) and social scientists (with expertise in studying the relationships between basin ecosystems, human communities, and their cultures) in order to bridge their institutional knowledge on the study of environmental flows.

Amazon Computational Sustainability

Hundreds of hydropower projects have been proposed for the Andean Amazon region, as well as for other biodiverse regions of the world undergoing unprecedented rates of hydropower expansion. Our premise is that regional planning needs to consider basin-wide ecosystem services when determining which hydropower projects to develop.

Serengeti - Lake Victoria (SELVA) Sustainable Water Initiative

The Mara River Basin drains some of the world’s most important biodiversity areas and supports some of the most distinct cultures in the world. Alas, freshwater security in this region is increasingly threatened and vulnerable as a result of human activities, deforestation, agricultural expansion, river alteration, and over-utilization of freshwater resources. The SELVA initiative follows on previous work to examine flow-ecology and flow-ecosystem services relationships in the Mara River Basin, Tanzania.


Partners for Conservation in the Colombian Amazon

This initiative aims to demonstrate viable, flexible, and low-cost methods for collecting timely data for water resource management in the Andean river systems. By training local professionals to develop and maintain remote sensing systems, this project seeks to ensure water security within this vulnerable region.



Amazon Dams Network

The ADN mission is to build capacity for the advancement of inter- and transdisciplinary research on the social-ecological impacts of hydroelectric dam construction in the Amazon. The network aims to synthesize and sharelessons learned from hydroelectric dam implementation in the Amazon and the United States focusing on an adaptive management approach within the complex social-ecological systems (SES) theory.

Miami Canopy

The Miami Canopy is a proposed network for collaboration between South Florida organizations to enhance the exchange of research data and inter-organizational collaboration. Through collaborative project planning, redundancies and resource limitations can be addressed to enhanced the success of tropical conservation projects in South Florida.
